Chot Reyes sees room for improvement despite TNT's 3-0 start

TNT coach Chot Reyes believes his team can do better even after a 3-0 start in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The Tropang Giga beat the Terrafirma Dyip, Rain or Shine and Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in succession before the season-opening conference was put on hold due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine regulations imposed in Metro Manila.

Though joining the 4-0 Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok as the only teams without a loss, Reyes feels there are plenty of things that need to work on once the PBA can restart the tournament.

“On the basketball court, we need to play more good quarters together, we need to be able to string a whole game together and we need to be mentally tougher,” Reyes said prior to the suspension of games.

Against Phoenix last Aug. 1, TNT trailed by double digits in the first half and needed a big run in the fourth quarter to escape with an 84-80 victory.

It turned out to be TNT’s last game before the indefinite break, and the performance in that match is something Reyes and his staff are hoping to work on by the time teams can be allowed to have a window to train before the resumption of games.

“There’s no excuse for us to start like that,” said Reyes, whose team produced a 79-69 win over Rain or Shine two days prior.

“Credit to Phoenix, they threw that defense on us at the start and it took a long while for us to figure it out.”

Troy Rosario has been TNT’s most consistent player with averages of 14.0 points and 10.7 rebounds while Jayson Castro, RR Pogoy and the returning Kelly Williams have been among the consistent performers through three games.
