President Duterte has appointed Army Col. Randolph Cabangbang as the next commander of the Presidential Security Group (PSG).
Cabangbang will take the place of PSG chief Jesus Durante III during the change of command ceremony scheduled Friday, August 20. The commander-in-chief is expected to attend the turnover rites in Davao City.
Durante, first appointed PSG chief in February last year, will serve as commander of the 1001st Infantry Brigade in Davao de Oro.
The appointment of the incoming PSG chief was announced by the group's spokesperson, Major Zeerah Blanche Lucrecia Thursday, August 19.
Cabangbang, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) class of 1991, currently serves as chief of staff of the Army's 2nd Infantry Division deployed in Tanay, Rizal.
The bemedaled military officer served as chief of staff of the PSG from September 2019 to August 2020. He was also the deputy commander of the Task Force Davao, 10th Infantry Division.
Cabangbang, who hails from Los Baños, Laguna, earned a master's degree in military and defense from the Australian National University. He is also a recipient of several medals and awards, including Outstanding Achievement Medal, Distinguished Service Star, and a Gold Cross Medal.
