'Less than 100 OFWs' awaiting repatriation from Afghanistan--OWWA chief
There are still an estimated 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Afghanistan who are awaiting repatriation.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac revealed this figure on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 18 even as he said that 35 OFWs have already arrived home via the initial repatriation flight organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
"Yung repatriation flight na umuwi kahapon ay bunsod din ng DFA repatriation effort. Tayo ay nag-aassist (Yesterday's repatriation flight was due to the DFA's repatriation effort. We are assisting them)," Cacdac said during a virtual press briefing.
"Ang sabi ng DFA on the ground ay 130 OFWs in Afghanistan. Thirty-five yung umuwi noong isang araw, kaya't humigit-kumulang less than 100, sabihin nating 95 ang kailangan pang ilikas mula doon (The DFA said there are 130 OFWs on the ground in Afghanistan. Thirty-five have arrived home, so more or less 100, or let's say 95 still need to be brought home)," he said.
The 35 repatriated from Afghanistan are currently in quarantine, the OWWA chief said.
"Lahat po sila, ayon sa direktiba ni Sec ay bibigyan natin ng financial and livelihood assistance para move on sila sa kanilang pagbabalik (As per the directive of Secretary Silvestre Bello III, we will give all of them financial and livelihood assistance to help them move forward from their return to the country)," he said.
Bello, who heads the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), had instructed Cacdac not to discriminate between documented and undocumented OFWs coming from Afghanistan in terms of the assistance to be given.
There is a rush to fly out foreigners from Afghanistan following the return to power of the Taliban regime.
