KWF confers seal of excellence for public service to DOST-PCIEERD

The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) has been recognized by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) for its initiatives to promote Filipino language through its projects and programs.

The KWF grants the “Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbisyo Publiko” to DOST-PCIEERD for supporting the advancement of the Filipino language through research and development projects

DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director Dr. Enrico C. Paringit thanked the KWF for recognizing their initiatives.

“Ibinabahagi namin ang parangal na ito sa mga mananaliksik at kawani ng DOST PCIEERD na siyang nagsasanib pwersa para maitaguyod ang mga adhikain ng pagsusulong ng wikang Filipino (We are sharing this award with the researchers and staff of DOST PCIEERD who join forces to promote the goals of advancing the Filipino language),” he said in a statement.

DOST-PCIEERD is set to receive the award on August 31 during KWF’s virtual event, in celebration of the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa.

Among the R&D projects implemented by the Innovation Council to support the advancement of the Filipino language are the following:

-Project Marayum - a collaboratively built online dictionary platform for Philippine languages.

The initiative aims “to empower native language speakers to create and curate an online dictionary of their language without needing to have technical expertise in website design, implementation, and maintenance."

- Senti AI – a startup supported by the Council that provides social media monitoring services that is focused on understanding Filipino.

“To process social media posts better, they have developed a machine learning -based language classifier that automatically detects the language of any document,” the DOST-PCIEERD said.

“The product will allow the clients to view the market behavior on social media as well as the real time conversations about their brands,” it added.

The Council noted that it is using the Filipino language in its social media pages for announcements and sharing information about breakthroughs in its researches.

“Nakikiisa kami sa KWF sa adhikain nitong linangin at palaganapin ang paggamit ng wikang Filipino sa bansa. Lalo pa naming paiigtingin ang paggamit ng wikang Filipino sa aming mga opisyal na gawain at sa aming mga pakikipagtalastasan (We join KWF in its mission to cultivate and promote the use of the Filipino language in the country. We will further intensify the use of the Filipino language in our official activities and in our communications),” it said.

The Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbisyo Publiko was created in 2016 to “recognize government agencies and local government units (LGUs) that have shown excellence in the use of the Filipino language in serving Filipinos.”
