Jimmy Alapag celebrated a championship in his return to the coaching ranks after the Sacramento Kings ruled the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Alapag was part of the coaching staff that helped steer the Kings to the Summer League crown Tuesday (Wednesday Philippine time) when they beat the Boston Celtics, 100-67, in the championship game held at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Louis King scored 21 points with three rebounds and five steals and was later named Most Valuable Player of the championship game as Sacramento Kings ended its campaign by winning all five matches in Sin City.
Coach Bobby Jackson, who prominently played for Sacramento during his NBA career and is now calling the shots for the Stockton Kings in the G League, was later seen sharing warm embraces with his assistants, including Alapag.

Sacramento won its second title in the Summer League, the NBA’s offseason tournament for rookies, sophomores and players from G-League affiliates.
It was Alapag’s second tour of duty with the Kings’ Summer League squad after serving as part of the coaching staff in 2019.
The Kings gig was also Alapag’s first major coaching job since the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to his tenure as mentor of San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League in March 2020.
Alapag and his family eventually left for the United States in hopes of getting better coaching opportunities.
With the Kings stint completed, the door could open for the PBA and Gilas Pilipinas legend to secure a job in either with the NBA team or in the G-League.
