The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is closely monitoring a cloud cluster east of Visayas due to its possible formation into a low pressure area (LPA).
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja on Wednesday, Aug. 18, said the cloud cluster is considered by the Japan Meteorological Agency and US Joint Typhoon Warning Center as a remnant low.
It was formerly a tropical depression that has weakened because there is no more appreciable wind to consider it as a tropical cyclone, Estareja explained.
He said the weather disturbance may enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday, Aug. 19, where there is a high chance that it will re-develop into a tropical depression.
The potential cyclone will likely remain inside the PAR until the weekend and may move generally west-northwest.
It may approach the Batanes and Babuyan group of islands over the weekend but there is a low chance that it will make landfall or directly affect the country in the coming days, Estareja said.
In the next 24 hours, the easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean will be the dominant weather system across the country.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with a high chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
The State weather bureau has not issued any gale warning on Wednesday morning thus fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail.
