New British ambassador-designate to PH is a lady and she speaks Tagalog

British Ambassador-designate to the Philippines Laure Beaufils has the wherewithal to blend and bond easily with the Filipino people as she prepares to officially start her tour of duty as the United Kingdom’s top diplomat in the Philippines.

Two days after her arrival in Manila, Beaufils posted a one-minute video where she spoke to the Filipino people in pure Tagalog, conveying the message of friendship and her mission of strengthening the UK-Philippine relations.

“Umaasa ako na makilala ang marami sa inyo sa susunod na lingo at buwan. Nais ko rin na matuto pa ng mas marami tungkol sa magandang bansa na ito (I am excited to meet you all in the coming weeks and months, and also learn more about this beautiful country),” the lady British envoy said.

Beaufils also spoke about the many common interests between the UK and the Philippines as well as the opportunities for collaboration in various areas such as health, education, climate change, trade, human rights, and security, among others.

“Inaasahan kong makipagtulungan sa inyong lahat. Kaya’t tara na PIlipinas! Maraming Salamat po,” Ambassador Beaufils said in ending her message.

Prior to officially assuming her diplomatic stint in the Philippines, Beaufils is expected to present her letter of credentials to President Duterte in Malacañang soon.

She is making history as the first British woman to serve as ambassador to the Philippines.

Her appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Philippines and as non-resident ambassador to Palau was first announced in April this year. She is replacing Ambassador Daniel Pruce whose term in the Philippines ended early this month.
