DOH logs over 10K new COVID-19 cases

The Philippines saw 10,035 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

The country's overall tally stands at 1,765,675 with six percent or 105,787 remain as active cases or those who are still undergoing treatment.

Of the active infections, 96.1 percent have mild symptoms, 0.9 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are critical, 1.3 percent are severe, and 0.90 percent are in moderate condition.

The death count also jumped to 30,462-- which represent 1.73 percent of the total case tally -- after 96 more people succumbed to the disease.

Meanwhile, 10,858 more patients have recovered, raising the recovery tally to 1,629,426 or 92.3 percent of the country's total number of confirmed cases.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire urged the public to strictly follow the health protocols amid the rising number of new cases.

“Correct adherence to our safety protocols does not only protect ourselves but also the members of our household,” said Vergeire.

“While we cannot vaccinate our children yet, vaccinating the eligible adults protects them as well,” she added.
