DepEd records over 4.7 million enrollees for SY 2021-2022 so far

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, Aug. 17, said that there are more than 4.7 million students who are currently considered enrolled for the incoming school year.

On the second day of the regular enrollment, data provided by DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan showed that the enrollment for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 has reached 4,777,942 to date.

“The data combines the enrollment from the early registration and the quick count for the start of enrollment,” Malaluan told reporters in a Viber message.

The DepEd on Aug. 16 formally opened the regular enrollment for students who wish to enter public schools this school year.

The enrollment period will run until the first day of SY 2021-2022 on Sept. 13.

DepEd implements an enhanced enrollment process for this SY.

While enrollment is primarily done remotely, parents or guardians of learners in schools located in lower COVID-19 risk areas may be allowed to submit the enrollment forms physically in coordination with the school officials and local government units (LGUs).

Malaluan noted that similar to last year’s updates, “the daily quick count adjusts.” He also noted that “there is also reporting lag from areas with poor access to communication.”

The initial enrollment data showed that as of 9 a.m., Aug. 17, Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees with 533,722. It was followed by Region VII with 411,772 and Region VI with 399,130 enrollees.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila schools have 326,343 enrollees to date.

DepEd is set to release a disaggregation report on enrollment on Aug. 18.

No need to 'reconfirm'

Malaluan explained that those learners who participated in the Early Registration in March 2021 no longer need to “reconfirm” during the regular enrollment period.

“Unlike last year, the early registration happened before COVID so we had to reconfirm in June,” Malaluan said.

“This year the early registration was already under COVID situation,” he added.

In June, DepEd announced that the number of students who have already registered for SY 2020-2021 has reached over 4.5 million.

DepEd’s final monitoring report on early registration showed that there were 4,557,435 incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 students who registered ahead of the regular enrollment period.

The early registration is an annual initiative of DepEd before the opening of a new school year. Due to the ongoing public health situation, the early registration was done through remote means.
