Caloocan City opens drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination sites

The Caloocan City government has opened two drive-thru vaccination sites in a bid to help delivery riders get easy access to COVID-19 jabs amid the threats posed by the coronavirus disease and its variants.

Mayor Oca Malapitan said the local government launched Tuesday the drive-thru inoculation sites at the Caloocan Sports Complex for riders living and working in North Caloocan, and at SM Sangandaan for riders in South Caloocan.

A total of 1,000 riders from Grab Philippines are expected to get inoculated using AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday. At least 1,500 more Grab riders will be vaccinated in the coming days, Malapitan said.

"We prioritized inoculating our delivery riders in this initiative because we're aware that they are important now while we are still under the enhanced community quarantine. We want them to be protected, so they can also protect their families and clients," the mayor said.

The drive-thru vaccination initiative will run simultaneously with the city's regular vaccination program.
