BEIJING, China -- An article written by President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, assuring his people that the CPC is the pillar that they can lean on when crises strike, was published on Monday, August 16.

“China's fight against COVID-19 has again attested to the fact that the CPC stands firm as the pillar that the Chinese people can reliably lean upon when crises strike,” Xi wrote.

Xi’s article, which came out in the Qiushi Journal, also summed up CPC’s historical experience and strength as well as party-building.

“It also shows that China's socialist system is the most robust institutional guarantee to ward off risks and challenges,” the article said.

Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, wrote the article in time for this year's 16th issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.

Xi noted in the article that during the 19th national congress of the CPC, it unequivocally placed the strengthening of the Party first, stressing the importance of enhancing the Party's political building as its overarching principle.

“Strengthening the Party through political building is an important guarantee that has enabled the CPC to keep growing and secure one victory after another,” the article said.

It added that the primary task of party-building is to ensure that everyone obeys the CPC Central Committee and upholds its authority and centralized, unified leadership.

“Party members must uphold the correct political direction, the CPC leadership, and China's socialist system,” the article said.

Xi had earlier written articles on promoting socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics in February; on making China a global enter for science and innovation in March; on history learning in June; and on strengthening history education among military personnel in July, which all came out in Qiushi Journal.
