PCG steps up border control as first Lambda variant case detected in PH
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to step up its border control operations as the first case of the Lambda variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was detected in the country.
PCG Spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo said all their units have been placed on full alert since the reported cases of the Delta COVID-19 variant in the Philippines.


“We have been on alert because of the Delta variant. will just remind our units to step up its border control operations because of the Lambda variant,” Balilo told the Manila Bulletin on Monday.
The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Sunday, August 15, the presence of the Lambda variant of the coronavirus in the Philippines.
The DOH said the first case of Lambda variant involves a 35-year-old woman and is “currently being validated as to whether she is a local or returning overseas Filipino case.”
Meanwhile, the cases of Delta variant continue to increase as 182 new cases were found. Of this figure, 112 are local cases, 36 are returning overseas Filipinos (ROF), and 34 cases are currently being verified if these are local or ROF cases.
