PCG intensifies coastal, seaborne patrols vs illegal entries in Surigao del Norte
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Surigao del Norte has intensified enforcement of strict security coastal and seaborne patrols to deter illegal entries as the province was placed under stricter protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) variant cases.
PCG Surigao del Norte Station Commander Elaine Pangilinan has ordered strict simultaneous coastal security and seaborne patrol operations within the province on Friday, Aug. 13.

This came after the provincial government of Surigao del Norte implemented stricter temporary measures for travelers going or passing through the province. It also prohibited face-to-face meetings, training, and seminars based on Executive Order No. 21-029 series of 2021.
The executive order imposed the temporary suspension of air and sea travel for Surigao del Norte passengers coming from Luzon and Visayas excluding the domestic air and sea trips of cargoes until Aug. 22.

“The simultaneous patrol operation aims to further enhance and showcase PCG visibility in order to deter any unlawful individuals and illegal entrants particularly in the coastal areas which serve as ‘backdoors’ for their entry in the province of Surigao del Norte,” Pangilinan said in a statement.
Pangilinan urged the coastal barangays and residents to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious individuals visiting the area without valid documents to prevent the spread of Delta and Lambda variants of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the province.

Personnel from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Philippine National Police (PNP), and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Surigao City also rendered assistance in inspecting passengers at Surigao Baseport and Lipata Port on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
