LPA to bring scattered rains, thunderstorms in parts of northern Luzon -- PAGASA

A low pressure area (LPA) off Baguio City will likely bring scattered rain showers over parts of Northern Luzon, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region in the next 24 hours.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the LPA at 55 kilometers northwest of Baguio City on Monday morning, Aug. 16.
Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the LPA may not develop into a tropical depression as it will likely dissipate in 24 to 48 hours.
As of Monday, the LPA is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterly winds and localized thunderstorms.
Easterlies are warm winds that originate from the Pacific Ocean.
PAGASA warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
The State weather bureau has not issued any gale warning on Monday thus fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail.
