DepEd allows submission of enrollment requirements until December 2021

Recognizing the challenges faced by parents and learners amidst the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country, the Department of Education (DepEd) has allowed the submission of enrollment requirements until the end of the year.

The enrollment in public schools started on Monday, Aug. 16 through a remote system. It covers incoming learners from kindergarten, elementary, junior high school and senior high school for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 to formally open on Sept. 13.

In DepEd Order No. 32 series of 2021, the agency said that the in recognition of the “difficulties presented by the current public health emergency and the guidelines” set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging and Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), the “deadlines for the submission of documentary requirements” shall be deferred to Dec. 31, 2021.

“This shall apply to both public and private schools,” DepEd said.

Under Section V-A of DepEd Order No. 03, s. 2018 or the “Basic Education Enrollment Policy,” it was stated that while all learners must be accepted in basic education, all public and private schools and others that offer basic education program “shall adhere to the existing rules that govern the minimum eligibility an documentary requirements for enrollment in order to establish the identity of learners.”

Learners for each key grade level, DepEd said, must be able to comply with the eligible standards and minimum documentary requirements which may include Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Kindergarten certificate of completion, result of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Assessment Checklist or the result of the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) or Philippine Validating Test (PVT) and other school forms.

DepEd noted that these documentary requirements will be attached to the permanent record of the learners.

Meanwhile, DepEd reminded that only schools and their personnel are allowed coordinate the transmission of learners' records --- whether internally or between a learner's previous and incoming class advisers and externally or between schools.

“As such, schools shall not compel learners and their parents/guardians to take responsibility for transmission of school records,” DepEd added.

DepEd has also issued guidelines on the transmittal of electronic format/scanned copy copy of credentials documents for specific grade levels.
