Four students from PHSA featured at the 22nd International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo

PAGTAHI-TAHI NG RETA-RETASONG ALAALA This artwork by PHSA student Minnesota S. Flores earned a certificate of merit at the 22nd International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo.

Artworks from the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) students namely, Minnesota S. Flores, Daniel Castillo, Denise Natividad, and Kulay Dala were featured at the 22nd International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo organized by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture (IFAC).

Minnesota S. Flores’ artwork entitled Pagtahi-tahi ng Reta-retasong Alaala (Sewing Together Remnants of the Past) was awarded the Certificate of Merit with medal during the virtual awarding ceremony early this month. IFAC founder and chairman Dr. Haruhisa Handa who read the Citation for Flores, praised the Philippines’ “top class” performance in arts and culture.

Flores’ painting, which depicts a lady with a sewing machine, is an homage to her family of “craftsmen and dressmakers.” Her piece highlights one of the prominent Filipino value, which is the “love of family.”

Flores’ awarded piece as well as the artworks of the three other students from PHSA are currently on exhibit at the National Art Center in Tokyo.
