PNP backs ordinance penalizing fully-vaccinated people to get more COVID jabs
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is supporting the move to pass ordinances that penalize people from getting coronavirus disease (COVID-19) booster shots amid the limited supply of the vaccine and large number of Filipinos who are willing to be vaccinated but have to wait for long due to the availability of the jabs.
Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said that while he understands the concerns of some people amis the threat of the deadly virus, he emphasized that getting more vaccine doses more than what was required is not good amid the limited supply of the vaccines.
"We understand their concerns but with the limited supply, they should also take into consideration the fact that there are a lot of Filipinos who are willing to be vaccinated but are still waiting for their turn," said Eleazar.
"That is why we welcome this move to have ordinances that would penalize these people," he added.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Benhur Abalos had called on mayors in the National Capital Region to come up with ordinances that will impose sanctions on persons who are getting booster shots using vaccine doses procured by the national government.
Abalos pointed out that the country still has an insufficient supply of vaccines. The Department of Science and Technology is still conducting tests on the safety and efficacy of combining COVID-19 vaccine brands.
Eleazar appealed to the public to think of the welfare of others who have not yet received even their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
