Woman National Master Jersey Marticio slipped from the top spot after eight rounds in the FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth Girls U14 Sunday.
Marticio yielded to second seed Woman FIDE Master Alexandra Shvedova of Russia in the seventh round then bounced back with an eighth-round victory over Angola’s Jemima Paulo in 41 moves of an English Opening, double fianchetto variation.
Her performances put her at seven points for a share of second place with WFM Agnes Chong of Malaysia, just half a point behind solo leader Shvedova.
April Joy Claros trailed behind at 6 points following back-to-back defeats over Jenny Zhu of the United States and Wendy Huang of the Netherlands, while Ruelle Canino slightly improved to 5.5 points after a seventh-round win over Vietnam’s Nguyen Ngoc Hien and an eighth-round defeat to another Vietnamese in Nguyen Linh Dan.
In Open U14, Wayne Ruiz subdued Nagare Kaivalya Sandip of India and Eric Ning of Canada for a share of seventh to 22nd places with 6 points.
