House official, two Manila solons, to join Aksyon Demokratiko if Isko seeks presidency

House Deputy Speaker and Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante will lead an exodus of Lower House members from their respective political parties to join the Aksyon Demokratiko if Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso declares a bid for the presidency in the 2022 national elections.

Abante admitted to Manila Bulletin that he will support Moreno if he will run for president although the Lower House official is a member of the National Unity Party (NUP), the political party that the popular Manila mayor left in favor of Aksyon Demokratiko.

Two other Manila lawmakers, Reps. John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto and Rolando Valeriano, are expected to follow Abante’s lead in supporting Moreno’s presidential bid.

“You better watch movements in the Lower House. Expect a good number of congressmen to leave their political parties to join Isko as soon as he declares for the presidency,” predicted a political analyst who requested anonymity.

The same source said Abante, Nieto and Valeriano have no choice but to resign from NUP if the political party will not permit them to campaign for Moreno if he runs for president.


 NUP has declared it will sign a coalition agreement with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago notwithstanding poll survey results indicating that Moreno, party vice chairman for political affairs, can win either the presidential or vice presidential posts.

Moreno resigned from NUP as soon as it became apparent that the political party chaired by former Antipolo City Rep. Ronaldo Puno will not support his bid for higher office.

“I’m considering (this) because I’ll be supporting him if he (Moreno) runs for president,” Abante texted when asked if he will join Aksyon Demokratiko, currently headed by Moreno.

The House official said: “Much as I want him to stay a mayor, if he believes that it’s time for him to run for higher position, I’ll support him.” “He has shown himself to be competent and compassionate and I believe there’s still a lot of changes in Isko (leadership),” stated Abante.

According to Abante he is a member of “Asenso Manileño”, a Manila-based political movement that Moreno founded.

Nieto and Valeriano are also members of Asenso Manileño and expected to join Aksyon Demokratiko if Moreno indeed runs as its standard bearer next year.

Established by the late Senator Raul Roco, Aksyon Demokratiko used to be headed by the late Tarlac Rep. Herminio Aquino as its president. Aquino, who recently succumbed to a lingering illness, was replaced by Moreno.
