2 more cops die of COVID-19, PNP death toll now at 91


Two more policemen died as cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continue to rise in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

As of Sunday, August 15, the total number of PNP personnel who died of COVID-19 is 91.

Based on the data of the PNP Health Service, the latest fatalities were a 49-year old police captain assigned in Northern Mindanao while the other one was a 51-year-old Police Executive Master Sergeant assigned in CALABARZON (Cavite, Lagunas, Batangas, Rizal Quezon) regional police.

The police captain experienced cough and fever on July 26-28. He was advised to isolate and undergo an RT-PCR test which yielded positive results. On July 30, he was admitted to a nearby hospital and underwent a chest tube thoracostomy.

On Aug 5, his oxygen level continues to decrease and at about 4 a.m. of August 6, he was declared dead by his attending physician.

The police sergeant, on the other hand, was admitted to a nearby hospital on August 9 due to COVID-19 symptoms and after two days of hospitalization, on August 11 he was declared dead.

A post mortem examination and swab test was conducted on the said police personnel and tested positive of Covid-19. He received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on July 19.

As of August 15, PNP Health tallied 131 new cases in the police force which brought to32,364 the total number of COVD-19 cases in the police organization.
