Why Cameron Diaz quit acting

Cameron Diaz's last acting effort was "Annie" in 2014.

She has since declared herself as having already "retired."

But why?

In a recent appearance on Kevin Hart's talk show, "Hart to Heart," Cameron, 48, got candid about it, relating how she just wanted her life to be more manageable.

The star of hit films like "There's Something about Mary," "The Mask," and "Charlie's Angels," explained, "When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time, when you're the person that is delivering one thing, you're the person on the screen, all parts of you, that isn’t that, has to sort of be handed off to other people."

The realization hit her at 40.

"For my personal, spiritual self, I was realizing that that one part of me that functioned at a high level wasn't enough. It's fun to do, I love it, I love acting, I could go (on) forever, I sometimes feel like I have unlimited energy and inertia. (But) I just looked around and there were so many parts of my life that I wasn't touching and that I wasn’t managing, and I couldn’t really manage, because everything was so massive."

Since then, Diaz said, "I feel whole."

"I met my husband, we started a family, all those things I didn't have time for before," Diaz said. "Actually, not just have the time for but didn't have the space to make the right decisions for me at the time to bring that in."

Diaz is married to musician Benji Madden of the band Good Charlotte.

The couple welcomed their daughter in 2019.

Last year, Diaz launched the organic wine brand Avaline.
