Scattered rains, thunderstorms over eastern Visayas due to LPA -- PAGASA

A new low pressure area (LPA) has formed east of the country on Saturday morning, Aug. 14, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The LPA, which was estimated at 550 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes on Saturday morning, may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, and Southern Leyte within 24 hours.

PAGASA weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said the shallow LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised the public to remain alert against possible flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorms are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

No gale warning was issued on Saturday morning as sea conditions across the country will be slight to moderate, PAGASA said.
