DOST partners with SickKids Foundation for PH anemia exemplar study

The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) is joining hands with SickKids Foundation to pursue the implementation of the Philippines Anemia Exemplar Study.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña disclosed the partnership between the FNRI and SickKids Foundation for the implementation of the project during his weekly report on Friday, Aug. 13.

“The project aims to assess the drivers of anemia reduction among Filipino women of reproductive age (WRA) or those aged 15 to 49 years old by exploring the perspective of key national nutrition stakeholders, community health workers, and WRA,” he said.

“Specifically, the project aims to assess the maternal health and nutrition policies, programs, and strategies implemented that may have contributed to the maternal anemia reduction; to determine the budget allocated for maternal anemia relevant policies, programs and interventions and the source of funds at the national and local levels,” de la Peña said.

The study also seeks to identify the facilitating factors that have contributed to the reduction of anemia among WRA through the perspectives and experience of national and local level stakeholders; and to explore the insights and experience of WRA in availing maternal health. services.

An inception meeting between the DOST-FNRI and SickKids Foundation regarding the initiative was initially scheduled on Aug. 11.
