PH in monsoon break; 'fair' weather conditions seen in the week ahead

The country is going through a "monsoon break" as the effect of the southwest monsoon, locally called "habagat," has temporarily weakened.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) defines monsoon break as the dry period that follows a rain event that may last for several days to two weeks.
In its weekly weather outlook issued on Friday, Aug. 13, PAGASA said the ridge of a high pressure area (HPA), an anticyclone weather system and opposite of low pressure area, is currently affecting Luzon.
Metro Manila and the rest of the county can expect generally fair weather conditions except for isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
From Saturday until Friday, Aug. 14 to 20, the easterlies, or the warm and humid winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will be the dominant weather system that will affect the country.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions except for some isolated rain showers or thunderstorms that may occur in the afternoon or evening.
The public is reminded to remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA said there is a slim chance of tropical cyclone development throughout the outlook period.
