Monteverde named new UP men's basketball head coach; Perasol appointed program director

Goldwyn Monteverde is set to take over coaching duties for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.

UP Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo announced the development Friday, Aug. 13, naming the multi-titled high school basketball tactician as the new head coach of the Maroons.

"Despite the recent pandemic measures, we have continued our consultations with the UP community, stakeholders and supporters of the UP Men's Basketball Team (UPMBT)," read Nemenzo's statement.

"We also conducted interviews of the applicants as part of the vetting process for the selection of our UPMBT Head Coach."

UP was also successful in keeping former head coach Bo Perasol, who stepped down from his post last month. He was appointed program director of the UP men's basketball team.
