Cavite surpasses 1,000 new daily COVID cases for the first time -- OCTA Research

Cavite has reported more than 1,000 daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections for two consecutive days, the first time it had happened in the province since the pandemic began, independent research group OCTA said in its monitoring report on Friday, Aug. 13.

The province has recorded 1,084 cases on Aug. 11 and 1,019 cases on Aug. 12, which were higher than the previous single-day high of 994 cases on April 9, 2021.

Cavite also saw a higher reproduction number or infection rate at 1.83 from 1.76 during the previous week.

OCTA said Laguna also hit a new high with 790 cases reported on Aug. 11, surpassing its previous single-day high of 663 cases on April 2.

Just like Cavite, Laguna also saw a higher reproduction number at 1.61 from 1.46.

"With reproduction numbers at critical level, the surge has not yet peaked in Cavite and Laguna," OCTA pointed out.

Reproduction number refers to the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual and is the primary indicator used by OCTA to study COVID trends.

Moreover, OCTA said that Cavite's COVID intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy was at a "critical" level, while COVID hospital bed occupancy was not at a critical level yet but was "high."

In Laguna, hospital bed and ICU occupancy were both at high levels.

Likewise, OCTA has observed that COVID-19 cases in Rizal and Batangas have increased although both provinces had average daily attack rates (ADAR) at a "moderate" level or less than 10 per 100,000 population.

ICU occupancy in Rizal was already at a critical level while it was close to critical level in Batangas.
