PH maritime agencies, US Coast Guard conclude interagency training

Maritime aw enforcers from various agencies have completed interagency training that was facilitated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) personnel to strengthen maritime enforcement capabilities in the country’s territory.

A total of 42 Philippine maritime law enforcers from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Philippine National Police – Maritime Group (PNP-MG), and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) took part in the interagency training led by the USCG instructors.

The training was done into two separate courses: Advanced Boarding Officer Course training for the PCG personnel and a separate course for the PNP-MG and BFAR officials.

The US Embassy said the training offered by the USCG instructors has delivered more challenging scenarios and tactics from the advanced boarding officer courses.

It added that the PNP-MG augmented the USCG curriculum by delivering instruction on “maritime enforcement principles, investigations, chain of custody, and supporting prosecutions while emphasizing the value of interagency cooperation.”

“USCG looks forward to continued interagency activities with Philippine agencies as they cultivate and expand their training programs,” the US Embassy said in a statement.

The PCG personnel have also completed the training series under the USCG facilitators, which includes the Boarding Officer Course, Outboard Motor Maintenance training, and Small Boat Operations event from March 8 to May 14.
