PH COVID-19 cases top 1.7 million

The Philippines has recorded over 12,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases for two consecutive days.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH) latest case update, 12,439 new cases were detected across the country. The figure caused active infections to jump to 87,663 which is 5.2 percent of the country's total caseload of 1,700,363.

Of the active cases, 95.3 percent have mild symptoms, 1.2 percent are asymptomatic, 0.9 percent are in critical condition, 1.5 percent are severe, and 1.08 percent are in moderate condition.

The DOH said that 165 more patients died, pushing the country's COVID-19 death count to 29,539. The Philippines' case fatality rate remains at 1.74 percent.

Recovery count also increased to 1,583,161 after 6,090 more patients were able to beat the viral illness. The total recoveries represent 93.1 percent of the overall confirmed cases.

The DOH also said that 69 percent of the country's intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients are currently in use, while 57 percent of isolation beds are being utilized.

"Upang matiyak natin ang ating kaligtasan at mapigilan ang mabilis na pagkalat ng COVID-19 sa ating bansa, ipagpatuloy ang ating masusing pagsunod sa Minimum Public Health Standards (In order for us to ensure our safety and prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19 in our country, we must continue our strict adherence to the Minimum Public Health Standards)," the DOH said.

"Piliin din natin ang magpabakuna para sa lubos na proteksyon ng ating mga sarili at mga nakapaligid sa atin (Choose also to get vaccinated for the full protection of ourselves and those around us)," it added.
