PCG confiscates over P200K lumbers, arrests 3 in Quezon

Authorities confiscated more than P200,000 worth of illegal lumber following the arrest of three people in an anti-illegal logging operation in Burdeous, Quezon, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Thursday, Aug. 12.

In a joint operation, the PCG Southern Tagalog and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) officials have apprehended the three suspects, while conducting a repair of motorbanca using the illegal cut lumbers off Sitio Cabaluya, Barangay Aluyon in Burdeous, Quezon on Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Among those seized were malatubig, halupag, igong, and yakal. The confiscated products have an estimated market value of P200,080.

The suspects are now facing violations of Presidential Decree No. 705 or the Forestry Code of the Philippines for “cutting and gathering timber or other forest products without license.”

The confiscated items were turned over to the officials of the DENR Real, Quezon for proper documentation and safekeeping.
