No major damages from 7.3 magnitude DavaoOr quake--OCD initial report

Local authorities in Davao Oriental and nearby areas are now conducting damage assessment after a 7.3 magnitude quake hit the province before dawn on Thursday, Aug. 12.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spokesman Mark Timbal, however, said that the initial report they received was that there was no major damage as a result of the strong tremor.

"The assessment of our local personnel and our LGU (Local Government Unit) counterpart in Davao Oriental is ongoing. Initial assessment, so far, no major damages," said Timbal.

Based on the data of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the epicenter of the earthquake is in the area of Mati City.

Intensity V was felt in General Santos City while Intensity IV in Koronadal City and Tampakan in South Cotabato.

The quake was also felt in some parts of Central Mindanao and CARAGA region and Eastern Visayas.
