The Muntinlupa City government has placed two more areas in the city under granular lockdown due to rising coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi enforced a 14-day Extreme Localized Community Quarantine (ELCQ) in Block 8, Hills View and Mangga Street, Lakeview Homes, both in Barangay Putatan, starting at 6 p.m. of Aug. 12 until 6 p.m. of Aug. 26.

Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) chief Dr. Juancho Bunyi said the city government decided to impose the localized lockdown after recording a high attack rate of 1,125 cases per 10,000 population and a narrow doubling time of four days for Block 8, Hills View and 92.49 cases per 10,000 population and a narrow doubling time of three days for Manga Street, Lakeview Homes.
As of Aug. 12, both Block 8 and Mangga Street have nine active COVID-19 cases each. The two communities also have a high risk population of senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women and children.
Block 8 has 60 children of more than five years old and 20 under five years old while Mangga Street has 65 senior citizens.
Bunyi said clustering of cases was observed in the communities and minimum public health practices such as social distancing and the strict use of face masks are not strictly followed. The CHO noted that the communities are congested and houses are close to one another.
Residents of the affected communities will not be allowed to go out of their area during the ELCQ and mass testing will be conducted and tracing of close contacts.
In addition, the City Social Service Department and Barangay Putatan will provide food packs and other basic items for the affected residents during the effectivity of the ELCQ. The Muntinlupa police will secure the two communities and will augment roving personnel in nearby areas to ensure the public’s strict compliance to health protocols.
Joining the meeting held by Fresnedi were Muntinlupa police chief Col. Melecio Buslig, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Muntinlupa Director Bing Ferino, City Planning and Development Office acting head Alvin Veron, Brgy. Putatan Chairman Danny Teves and Hills View homeowners association officials Cristeta Teves Oredo and Merly Francia.
Fresnedi asked residents for their cooperation and urged them to observe health protocols.
Last Aug. 10, the city government placed Chico Street, Laguerta in Brgy. Tunasan under ELCQ for 15 days.
There are now three communities under lockdown in Muntinlupa during the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, which will last until Aug. 20.
As of Aug. 11, Muntinlupa has 1,065 active COVID-19 cases out of 15,897 confirmed cases, 14,432 recoveries and 400 deaths.
