Mayor Emi deploys monitoring team to keep children off city streets

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano created on Thursday a monitoring team to ensure that no children will be roaming the streets during the entire Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

The monitoring team was composed of the local police under the supervision of Col. Cesar Paday-os, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Public Order and Safety Unit (POSU), and the barangay officials.

Rubino also called on the parents to strictly monitor their children aged 17 years and below and keep them inside their houses as much as possible.

Paday-os said upon the instruction of Rubiano, more policemen have been deployed to patrol the streets not only during the curfew hour to ensure that no children will roam around the city.

Paday-os said children who will be caught will be brought to the barangay halls and their parents or guardians will be asked to report.

He said that citation tickets will be issued to parents of children who will be caught violating the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines for ECQ.

The city police chief added that “batang hamog” (street children) who will be apprehended will be turned over to the Pasay City Youth Center.

The mayor said the monitoring team was created due to the alarming report about a spike in the number of children contracting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Rubiano said the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) reported on August 9 that there are 22 children in the city who are afflicted with COVID-19.

He said the children have been confined in the city’s isolation facilities for treatment and monitoring.
