'Hot Meals On Wheels' of PH Red Cross aims to feed 7K individuals in ECQ areas
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will continue to send food trucks to feed individuals who are in areas affected by the imposition of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

“Marami ang nagugutom lalo na ngayong ECQ (Many are hungry especially now ECQ),” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon said in a statement issued Thursday, Aug. 12.
With the ECQ still in place in Metro Manila and other surrounding areas, PRC - through its “Hot Meals on Wheels” program - aims to make sure that the most vulnerable are fed during the implementation of strict lockdowns.
Gordon directed one of its food trucks to be deployed to Delpan in Manil to serve ready-to-eat hot meals to 200 informal settlers affected by the lockdown.
“Marami ang hindi makalabas, marami ang hindi makapasok sa trabaho. Ang food truck na ito ay simbolo ng pagasa na maghahatid ng pagkain sa iba’t ibang tao sa Metro Manila at karatig bayan (Many can’t get out, many can’t get to work. This food truck is a symbol of hope that will deliver food to various people in Metro Manila and neighboring areas),” Gordon said.
PRC said that the food truck sent to Delpan is only one of many that will continue to roam around the Metro and nearby provinces to feed 7,000 individuals until Aug. 19.
The PRC has procured seven additional food trucks on top of its existing 16 food trucks as part of its first humanitarian responses to provide food to the most vulnerable.
PRC, in partnership with the Japanese Red Cross, also plans to distribute food packages to the most vulnerable sectors like senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and single parents.
Meanwhile, Gordon explained that the “Hot Meals on Wheels” initiative is just one of many operations he is directing the PRC to do during the pandemic.
Apart from this, other efforts to help in the fight against COVID-19 include non-stop COVID testing, vaccination, emergency field hospitals, cash grants, specialized ambulance units --- among many others.
