Filipino scientist bags EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND Fellowship

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has announced that a Balik Scientist bagged the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND Fellowship, the flagship funding programme of the European Union for doctoral education and post training of researchers.

The DOST-Balik Scientist Program congratulated Dr. Ryan L. Arevalo for bagging the fellowship, which is managed by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) on behalf of the European Commission (EC).

"Congratulations to our 2019 Balik Scientist, Dr. Ryan L. Arevalo! Dr. Arevalo was granted the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND Fellowship with his research entitled “Nanoporous Material Based Methane Partial Oxidation Catalysts”,” it wrote on Facebook.

"Your Balik Scientist family is very proud of you. We wish you the best in all your endeavors!”

It cited that Arevalo’s host institution will be University of Limerick in Ireland.

In its website, the EC said the MSCA “fund excellent research and innovation and equip researchers at all stages of their career with new knowledge and skills, through mobility across borders and exposure to different sectors and disciplines.”

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions help build Europe’s capacity for research and innovation by investing in the long-term careers of excellent researchers, it said.

"The MSCA also fund the development of excellent doctoral and postdoctoral training programmes and collaborative research projects worldwide. By doing so, they achieve a structuring impact on higher education institutions, research centres and non-academic organisations.”
