Eleazar orders probe, relief of all CIDG QC Field Unit for P3M extortion try

The entire unit of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Quezon City District Field Unit was ordered investigated and replaced over allegations of P3 million extortion from an arrested businessman.

Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said all the policemen assigned to the CIDG QC District Field Unit were also ordered disarmed and restricted until the result of the investigation is done, which is focused on how many of them have knowledge of the extortion demand from businessman Adrian Dominic Ang.

"I have already ordered to disarm and put them under restrictive custody while investigation is being conducted," said Eleazar.

Ang, owner of the ADA Farm Agriventure, was arrested by virtue of Warrant of Arrest for Violations of R.A 8799 – The Securities and Regulation Code after his company was ordered by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) to stop operation for alleged investment scam activities in Cebu.

Reportedly, one of the policemen assigned to the CIDG QC Field Unit demanded P3 million from Ang in exchange for his release.

The CIDG-National Capital Region immediately mapped out an entrapment but it was not carried out after Ang reportedly backed out of the plan.

"All QC DFU personnel allegedly involved in the incident were invited for questioning and will be directed to explain why no disciplinary action will be taken against them for Irregularity in the performance of their duty," said CIDG director Maj. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro for his part.

Ferro added that Ang was also invited for questioning.

Based on the latest data, at least two CIDG QC District Field Unit was already sacked. The policeman who demanded money was already identified.

Eleazar said he is expecting that both criminal and administrative charges would be slapped against those involved in the soonest possible time.
