The Department of Health (DOH) reiterated that coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines provide protection against hospitalization and death from the viral illness.
“There is a growing number of real-world evidence globally which have consistently shown that COVID-19 vaccines have led to significant reductions in hospitalizations and deaths among vaccinated individuals,” the DOH said in a statement.
Despite increases in COVID-19 cases in other countries, “the same rate of increase is not seen in hospitalizations and deaths,” the DOH said.
The Health department issued the statement amid circulating video featuring a certain Dr. Romeo Quijano who disapproves the use of COVID-19 vaccines.
“The DOH condemns health professionals who have been spreading false information regarding life-saving interventions such as COVID-19 vaccines,” the DOH said.
“It is especially irresponsible as the country continues to face the threat of the more infectious Delta variant,” it added.
The DOH urged the public to be careful in spreading information related to COVID-19.
“Maging maingat at responsable po tayo sa pagpapalaganap ng impormasyon sa ating mga kababayan (Let us be careful and responsible in disseminating information to our citizens),” it said.
