On International Youth Day, young Filipinos were challenged to register and vote in order to achieve change.

Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed) Program Officer Atty. Mildred Ople underscored the importance of registering and voting this upcoming national election.
"No matter how we're very passionate and very vocal about the change that you want to have in our local communities or in our national government, if you're not a registered voter, you will not be able to vote either, then you cannot change that -- you cannot be part of the change that you want," Ople said during YouthLed's virtual Q&A on Voter's Registration and Voter's Education.
"If you will not register, somebody else will make that decision for you. That's why very important to register to vote in May 2022," she reiterated.
Asked what are the important characteristics of the candidates voters should look for, Ople bared her personal standard, the "KKK: Katangian, Kakayahan, Kaalaman." (Characteristic, Ability, and Knowledge.)
Ople said the leaders' ability to empathize with their constituents is important.
"It's important that they have empathy and that they can put themselves in the position of those they represent," she continued.
Also check their track record, Ople reminded young voters.
"Their track record of leadership, their educational background, their participation in their community before running for a position," she added.
"The next three or six years of our lives depend on it. So it's important that we have these criteria. In Miss Universe, we have very high standards, so in choosing our next leaders, we should have higher standards."
