The Taguig City government has prohibited outdoor exercise under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in compliance with the decision of Metro Manila mayors.
On Aug. 9, the Metro Manila Council (MMC), composed of mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) including Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, signed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution No. 21-17, barring “outdoor exercise in the National Capital Region during the Enhanced Community Quarantine until 20 August 2021 through the Local Government Units of Metro Manila.”

Metro Manila mayors made the decision as the NCR posted an increase in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases including the highly transmissible Delta variant.
"While the Metro Manila Council recognizes the need to engage in various forms of outdoor exercise in order to promote and maintain physical, mental, and emotional health, the Council is also mindful of the fact that staying at home or remaining indoors is one of the best protection against the pandemic during the ECQ," according to the resolution.
According to the Taguig Safe City Task Force, “The City of Taguig will comply with this directive, and advises the public to exercise indoors instead.”
“In addition, in accordance with Safe City Task Force Advisory No. 49 regarding the Updated Guidelines during the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the City of Taguig, residents of private residential areas may exercise in previously approved Safe Zones,” it said.
The Safe Zones are “highly regulated areas where the health and safety of its users are monitored. Priority of use for these facilities shall be given to senior citizens, children, pregnant women, and those with comorbidities.”
Under the task force’s Advisory No. 49, “all Safe Zones in private communities previously approved by the Safe City Task Force may be used during ECQ.” It added that playgrounds, basketball courts and other places of leisure will still remain closed.
“The City Government highly encourages all residents of Taguig to utilize these spaces for their own safety. However, loitering, mingling, and congregating are still strictly prohibited. Safe Zone Administrators are reminded to strictly enforce minimum public health standards within their respective areas and ask anyone who fails to comply to leave immediately and stay home,” the advisory stated.
On Aug. 9, Taguig recorded 180 new COVID-19 cases in the city, bringing the total active cases to 990 out of 31,536 confirmed cases. It also recorded 30,264 recoveries and 282 deaths.
