Scattered rains, cloudy skies prevail over Metro Manila, parts of Luzon due to LPA, 'habagat'

The low pressure area and southwest monsoon or "habagat" may continue to bring rain showers over most of Luzon within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Aug. 11.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Lubang Islands, Kalayaan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Bicol Region.

PAGASA advised the public to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may sometimes become moderate to heavy.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA was estimated at 560 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan on Wednesday morning.

He said the weather disturbance may dissipate between Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 11, and Thursday morning, Aug. 12, while heading east of Taiwan.

The rest of the Philippines will have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Estareja said PAGASA is monitoring a cloud cluster that is at the boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) east of Visayas and Mindanao.

It is possible that a weak circulation or LPA may develop but for now, it is considered as a cloud cluster, Estareja said.

Three to four days from now, the cloud cluster may also bring rains over a large portion of Visayas and Mindanao, he added.
