Robredo's advice to youth: 'Be the best that you can be today'

Vice President Leni Robredo gave a glimpse of her thought process during a recent podcast interview as she shared the wisdom she imparts to her daughters about being the best they can be at any given time.

“The grass is not greener on the other side of the fence. Parang (It’s like) the grass will be greener where you are, depende sayo (it depends on you). You have to be the best that you can be today kasi (because) in the future, when you look back—parang (it’s like) all the dots connect,” she said in Bianca Gonzales’ #LegendsOnly podcast series released on August 9.

The vice president told Gonzales what she has always advised her daughters—Aika, Tricia, and Jillian—about making the most of what is given to them.

Young people always wonder “where should I be?,” Robredo added, but she believes that “you are where you are meant to be,” so people should always make the most of it.

Personally, she believes that her previous work with the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) led her to where she is now and that in the end, all the dots have connected for her.

“Those dots where I was in the past that was where I was meant to be at that particular time so ‘yun siguro ‘yung pinaka (that’s my most) final message to the young people listening to us—because this is where you are really supposed to be, make the most out of it,” Robredo said.

That being said, the vice president is not to be contented with remaining “static” as she’s a firm believer of the need to evolve.

“And I'm evolving because of the many experiences that I go through, I come across with. Ako (Me), I learn a lot from my daughters. Up until now, I learn a lot from the very young people who I am working with,” she said during the interview.

This should be the essence of one’s life: to never stop being open to change and to evolve into “someone better.”

“So feeling ko ‘yung Leni Robredo ngayon (So, my feeling is that the Leni Robredo today) is slightly different from who I was in the past,” she added.

And with the work she has, Robredo shared that she has always asked for “wisdom, discernment, and guidance.”
