PCG beefs up marksmanship training for ops control personnel in Luzon

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has conducted marksmanship training for its operational control personnel in a bid to further improve the enforcement of maritime laws and regulations in Northeastern Luzon.

All organic and operational control personnel of the PCG District Northeastern Luzon participated in the basic marksmanship training held in Barangay Punta, Aparri, Cagayan from Aug. 9 until Aug. 10.

Captain Edgar Ybanez, PCG District Northeastern Luzon commander, said the training aims to refresh the knowledge and skills of the personnel in marksmanship.

“It is necessary for Coast Guard personnel to know how to properly handle firearms and be acquainted with rules of gun safety so they could effectively enforce maritime laws and regulations,” Ybanez said.

Ybanez said the training also served as an avenue for the participants to strengthen their “camaraderie and develop interoperability” among Coast Guard units.

The PCG District Southeastern Mindanao also held a three-day basic marksmanship training last week for its operational control personnel in Davao City.

The Coast Guard added that the marksmanship training also focused on the growth of the Coast Guard personnel primarily in maritime security and law enforcement.
