FDA grants emergency use approval for donated COVID-19 vaccines from UAE

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed on Wednesday, August 11, that it granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for the donated Hayat-Vax COVID-19 vaccine doses from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Philippines on Wednesday, August 11, received 100,000 doses of Hayat-Vax COVID-19 vaccine doses that were donated by the UAE government.

"The FDA issued today an EUA for the vaccines donated by UAE. The vaccine is identical to the Sinopharm vaccine from China that is included in the WHO EUL (World Health Organization's Emergency Use Listing), said Domingo in a text message.

Domingo noted that Hayat-Vax is the same vaccine from China's Sinopharm but is produced in the UAE.

“Sinopharm din ang manufacturer. Ang packaging lang sa UAE ang pangalan Hayat-Vax (Sinopharm is also the manufacturer. But for the packaging in the UAE, the name is Hayat-Vax),” he said.

Domingo said that these vaccines are for 18 years old and above.
