Comelec to allow reactivation via email
The reactivation of voter registration records via email will soon be allowed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
On Facebook, Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that "reactivation of voters, who failed to vote in two consecutive elections, will soon be through email this month."
She explained that since the biometrics of the 6.3 million voters that were deactivated are still in the data base of the poll body, "hence they need not apply for reactivation in person."
Later, Guanzon announced that the En Banc approved the reactivation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens voters who failed to vote in two consecutive elections.
"Reactivation through email and oath before the election officer thru video. Wait for procedure details," she said on Twitter.
Earlier this month, Guanzon said the En Banc will study if they can use online to revalidate or restore all names of those who failed to vote twice in consecutive elections.
The poll official in July revealed that only 600,000 of voters deactivated for failure to vote twice have registered again.
Under the Voter’s Registration Act, a registration may be deactivated in the book of voters once an individual fails to vote in the two successive preceding regular elections as shown by their voting records.
A voter with a deactivated registration record, however, may file for reactivation with the local poll office of the city or municipality where they are registered during the next scheduled registration period.
