Comelec suspends ops in Cebu towns, cities

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has suspended the voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in a number of towns and cities in Cebu starting August 11.

In an advisory, the poll body cited the implementation of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) as reason.

"Suspension of voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) in the towns of Samboan, Sibonga, Argao, Cordova, Oslob, Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and the cities of Talisay, Carcar, and Naga in Cebu Province from August 11, 2021 due to MECQ," the Comelec said.
"Including satellite registration in barangays, malls, other venues," it added.

In separate advisories, the poll body also suspended voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in the OEO in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur from August 9 to 23, 2021 for the same reason.

Voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in the OEO in Tuguegarao City are also suspended from August 12 to 21 due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

On August 6, the Comelec also announced the suspension of voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in all OEO in Laguna, Iloilo City, and Cagayan de Oro City from August 6 to15 due to the ECQ.

It also suspended voter registration and issuance of voter's certification in all OEO in Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal, and Iloilo from August 6 to 15 due to the MECQ.

Days before, the poll body also suspended voter registration in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to the ECQ.

The voter registration period will end on September 30.
