Panelo extends condolences
The man behind the well-loved Melo's Steakhouse and the chairman/founder of Melo's Chain of Restaurants and Wagyu Restaurant, Carmelo L. Santiago, passed away last August 6, 2021. He was 78 years old. Aside from his restaurants, he holds many other positions in different companies, including San Miguel Corporation.
"The family of Carmelo L. Santiago is deeply saddened with his sudden death. But they are consoled that he is now resting in peace in heaven with Jesus, Mama Mary, St.Joseph and his favorite St. Pio and all his family and friends who have gone before him. He left behind his wife, Purita Santiago. And his six children, Jg, Cristina, Carmina, Carolina, Camille and Miguel and his six grandchildren," Caron Santiago Macaset, one of the late Carmelo's daughters, tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle.

Chief president legal counsel, Sec. Salvador Panelo, also posted in his official Facebook page—"I am saddened by the sudden demise of businessman Carmelo Santiago, founder and owner of several branches of Melo’s Restaurant and Wagyu Restaurant, as well as Director of San Miguel Corporation. Melo was a personal friend of long years, knowing him as a fiercely protective and loving father to his children, and a faithful and generous friend to many. To the corporate world, Melo is hailed as one of its most astute leaders. Unknown to many, he was a silent supporter and contributor to many social activities geared towards helping the poor. He was also a wise political adviser to some known politicians. Most importantly though, to his dearest family and friends, Melo is loved as man of warmth and integrity, and father with a passion for the welfare of his family. I share in the family’s grief and wish to extend my sincerest condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues and all the loved ones of departed friend Melo Santiago as I pray that eternal rest may be granted unto him and perpetual light would shine upon his soul."
