2 cops lauded for saving a teenager from drowning in La Union

Residents of Bangar town in La Union were all praises for two policemen who helped save a teenager from drowning over the weekend.

It all started when residents of Paratong 3 sought police assistance about a teenager identified as Andrei Lou Valdez being swept by strong current some 500 meters away from the shoreline.

Police Senior Master Sgt. Marlon Panitan and Patrolman Jefferson Otanes immediately responded and with the help of local residents were able to rescue Valdez.

Valdez was taken to the Regional Health Unit in Bangar where he was given immediate medical attention.

Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), lauded the two policemen for risking their lives to save the teenager.

"I commend the good deed shown by Senior Master Sergeant Panitan and Patrolman Otanes by risking even their own lives to help save the life of a local resident," said Eleazar.

"We have plenty of good policemen in our ranks and I am sure that what they did further inspired our personnel to live up to public expectation on what police service is," he added.
