'Will play it by ear,' Mayor Isko says on continuing Manila's new vaccination system after ECQ

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said he will monitor first the city’s progress under its new vaccination system before deciding on whether to continue it after the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Under the city’s new system for vaccination during ECQ, walk-ins were disallowed and individuals scheduled for vaccination were given stubs by their respective barangays.

The city’s move to disallow walk-ins in vaccination sites is in accordance with the Department of Health’s guideline.

“Will play it by ear muna (first),” Domagoso told Manila Bulletin in a Viber message when asked if the city plans to continue the no walk-in policy for vaccination.

The city started the implementation of its new system for vaccination on Aug.8.

The stubs given to individuals bore the number and the name of the site where they will get their jab.

Under the new system, vaccines schedules and appointments should be strictly followed.

The city was able to deploy 40,676 vaccines under its new system on Aug.8, Sunday.

Several netizens have praised the local government unit for a more organized vaccination process.

“Maganda na ang systema nila, mabilis lang, 30 minutes, tapos na (The system is better now. Iit’s fast, just 30 minutes and then you’re done),” Amie Salva wrote on Domagoso’s Facebook post.

Facebook user Vangie Bion also thanked the mayor for the “improvement of the vaccination.”

“Hindi na kailangan gumising ng madaling araw para pumila ng pagka-habahaba (We no longer need to wake up before dawn just to wait in long queues),” Bion wrote.
