This is the artist behind Hidilyn Diaz's charcoal artwork in her P14-million condo unit

Meet John Ken Gomez, a 21-year-old fine arts student who immortalized Hidilyn's Olympic win with his charcoal sketch

Everyone's jaws dropped after getting a glimpse of the prestigious condominium that was given to Hidilyn Diaz after her historic gold medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kevin Tan, CEO of Alliance Global Group Inc., turned over the P14-million space from Megaworld to the athlete. Apart from the chic condo unit located in Eastwood City, Hidilyn also got an artwork created by a young Filipino artist.

John Ken Gomez, a 21-year-old fine arts student of Far Eastern University, is the young artist behind the charcoal portrait of Hidilyn. In his piece, he captured the weightlifter's golden moment at the recent Olympic Games.

"I'm so honored to be part of this history," the artist posted. "Our first Olympic gold medalist Miss Hidilyn Diaz and Mr. Kevin Tan of Megaworld holding my charcoal painting of her inside her P14-million fully furnished condominium unit. This is so monumental."

According to Kevin's post, the artwork is inscribed with a message from Megaworld that says, "Thank you for lifting our country up high."

It is not new for the young artist to depict empowered women in his charcoal artworks. In the past, he sketched Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo, social media stars Bella Poarch and Valkyrae, and actress Liza Soberano as Alexandra Trese from the Netflix series "Trese." The latter artwork was praised by the actress herself.
