PAGASA: LPA, southwest monsoon likely to bring scattered rains over Luzon

Cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may persist over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon due to the low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 10.

PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA 810 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan at around 3 p.m.

Weather specialist Joey Figuracion said the weather disturbance still has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression within the next few days.

It will most likely dissipate while traversing the Philippine Sea, he added.

However, PAGASA warned the public that the combined effects of the LPA and the southwest monsoon or "habagat" may trigger flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions and isolated rain showers may prevail over Visayas and Mindanao.

Those in these areas should also remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

No gale warning was issued on Tuesday afternoon as sea conditions across the country will be slight to moderate, PAGASA said.
