Cloudy skies, scattered rains over Luzon, Visayas due to LPA, 'habagat' -- PAGASA

Scattered rain showers, thunderstorms, and cloudy skies are expected over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Visayas due to the combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or "habagat," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

PAGASA advised those in Luzon and Visayas to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may sometimes become moderate to heavy.

The LPA was at 280 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 3 a.m.

Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the LPA remains less likely to intensify into a tropical depression but PAGASA will continue to monitor this weather disturbance as forecast scenarios can still change in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Mindanao will have fair weather conditions due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms.

Residents in Mindanao should also remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

PAGASA has not issued a gale warning on Tuesday as sea conditions across the country will be slight to moderate.

However, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk to remain alert as sea conditions, especially over the western seaboard of Luzon may become rough during severe offshore thunderstorms.
